Well folks, if you have this problem with the CF clear lifting (bubble look effect), do not wait as long as I did; Lexus told me today that I'm past the 4yr/50k mileage warranty (my 100k bumper to bumper warranty does not cover internal defects) and will NOT be covered/replaced.

So, if you're within the 4/50k and you're having this issue, DO NOT WAIT to get it done like I did.

It's weird, only my driver side is showing signs of delamination. You can always have it sanded down and recleared by any paint shop.

I was at the dealership to handle a couple things:
1. talk about the AC Servo recall - said it did not apply to me yet and will not replace, but makes sense.
2. talk about the Driver/Passenger window switch panel pieces - this thread is what that finding is.
3. squeeling - found the pulley to be the culprit, they are replacing pulley and belt under warranty but still costing me $305 out of pocket... ugh.

They gave me a loaner and said the car will be done Saturday by COB.

I got a letter from Lexus about the AC servo issue. The sent an extended warranty card specifically for the servo. extended the warranty on it to 125K miles / additional 4 years.

So basically the clear resin is separating from the CF and they can’t cover it under manufacturing defects??

Guess they need to see over 100 complaints before they may consider extended warranty..

The manufacturing process would need corrective improvement. As I would not want the same part # installed if it’s going to happen again in 4+ years.

Have these failed for others inside the 4yr / 50k miles ?

Yes mine looked a lot like the pictures in this thread and I was able to get them replaced inside the 4 yr window. I've seen pictures of them in worse condition and wanted it fixed before warranty was up. The parts we like a grand if I would've had to pay for them.

I imagine we're going to see more of this now that all 2015/2016 cars (the bulk of RCFs sold) are outside the 4 year window, even though a lot have low miles.

If you want to fix it, use cooking oil. Air has got between the fiber layer and the resin, it has to be poured with oil.

What you are seeing is a gap between the clearcote (or epoxy) and the top carbon layer. Caused initially by the installation when the piece was cut to fit and then pushed into place (they "should" have epoxied the edges after cutting to keep air from infiltrating but that would have been labor intensive). Oil might fill the gap but likely to leave bubbles at the ends (but a syringe might work-could also try injecting epoxy that way). A DIY is possible. Simply grind down (dremel) until you get to the fabric/epoxy, then coat with west system epoxy (don't use cheap epoxy). There are videos on YouTube on how to remove scratches in a carbon fiber piece...same process. Of course there is an even less expensive and less messy fix (grinding and sanding epoxy is very messy--do not do the DIY inside your car, the fumes will be bad). That piece is purely cosmetic...so get some 3M vinyl overlay and overlay it with a carbon fiber look.
