For those of you that don't drive often, do you replace with synthetic yearly since you obviously won't hit 5k miles before the year is up?
I got my 2017 rcf memorial day of 2021 and barely passed 1k miles driven so far since i wfh, thinking i should just change the oil @ the 1 yr mark and call it a day?

I had similar questions about changing the oil in my BMW motorcycle. Did some research. Oil degrades by being hot--so driving long distance or long time each time you change every X miles driven. The other way oil degrades is by heating up (actually it is the same process). But manufacturers all assume that you do this periodically for short trips so they tell you to change every Y months or years since they think you are heating it up frequently. However, oil does not degrade at all merely sitting in the oil sump. I plan on taking my new RCF to the dealer for the initial oil change covered under warranty sometime in the near future even though I only have about 800 miles on it and 6 months of driving. I figure the "break in" period is the most likely time little bits will scrape off. Then I'll wait and get it changed again before the free service warranty period is over. Currently have about 2 year old oil in the BMW and probably will get it changed this year--only ride about a 1000 miles a year on it.

I change my oil every year or 5000 miles. I put about 5000 a year so it works out pretty good, but even if I did not, I would change it yearly. I like the idea of fresh clean oil. Cheap way to protect your engine. I also use Aimsoil as I like fresh clean expensive oil...LOL

Before warranty expired, follow manual.
After warranty, do whatever you want.
