RX300 Pre-purchase questions
I'm looking to potentially purchase a RX300 but had a few questions.
1. Is the air filteration available on the 1999? I looked on the CPO web site and it doesn't list it as part of the Premium Package as it does in the 2000 model.
2. Any concern about purchasing a 1999 vs. a 2000? I know the '99 is the first model year, so some of the kinks might have been fixed in 2000? Any things in particular to look?
3. Is the only way to find out if the vehicle has LSD is to have the dealer do a look up on the computer?
Thanks.

al,
My 99 has the cabin air filter for the A/C, actually all the air, hot, cold, fresh air goes through it. The filter is acessed through the glove box.
I know there are a few short comings in the 99, not sure what was fixed in the 00.. For example, the turning radius is a bit too big, the gas tank is a bit too small, the instrument panel light indicating when you are in Drive (D) burns out prematuraly, engine may not shift out of 2nd gear on cold days until the eng temp starts to come up a bit. Cup holders suck.
However, I do like the vehicle very much and glad i bought it. The wife and I fight over who has it for the day!

The turning radius stayed the same from 99-03; this was only fixed with the advent of the 330. As for the tranny not shifting on cooler days, this was/is an emissions issue. Would hold 2nd gear until transmission fluid reached 176 F (don't hold me to that precise number) in order to light off the cat faster. I guess th cata could have been repositioned closer to the manifold but regardless, it took less than a mile to upshift.
The D light does burn out (ours is now) but wifey has never complained about the cupholders. The size of the gas tank was increased from 17.2 gal eventually but I'm too lazy to go to the Lexus website to find out what year.
As far as the LSD, the answer is probably yes. I'm not sure if there is any visible difference between the open and limited slip LSD. But it's certainly worthwhile having!!
We've had ours since May/98. It's been replaced by the Black/Onyx 330 you see listed in my sig but I still like our 300 so much, I'd keep it if she'd let me!!!!
