Default 03 RX300 high gear

Hi,
I i'm having issues when driving and the car has been shifting gears fine, suddenly after stopping and then starting again, it won't go into high gear. If I stop the car and put it in neutral and shut it off and start it again. It is fine and will shift into high gear. I've been having issues for the last month or so occasionally hearing a pinging sound like a knock when going uphill or even just on the highway, randomly with barely even having my foot on the gas. I have no check engine lights on. From what I've been reading. Sounds like this could be the knock sensors and my biggest question is I have it scanned and there's no check engine light is it still going to pick up that it was a knock sensor causing the car to not shift into high gear? I have spent so much money on this car in the last year and a half, I can't even begin to tell you and now to have this happen. I'm ready to pull my hair out. Thank you in advance for any insight before i limp myself back to mechanic.

Does the Check engine light work? The bulb can be blown or taken out of circuit by some one.

As you move your key from lock -> Acc -> run [short of start] does the CEL and all other idiot lights turn on and do they go off when you start and release the key?

Just connect a OBDII reader and check.

FYI ... it needs to be in the next position after ACC, which I think is Run [one one before start]

Hi Salim,
The CEL isnt working (confirmed) and mileage is 235,000. I went to auto zone today and had it scanned. The guy was not very helpful and told me to plug in the scanner, useless. Finally I am given a print out after being asked if I got gas recently? Told me it was the gas cap but would not give me the code. I explained why I was asking then he goes oh yeh knock sensor is on the list too, because I mentioned it. So long and short I need to go elsewhere to get it scanned to get the actual code, he wouldn't provide it. So frustrating. Thanks for being patient

These days owning a OBDII reader is almost essential.

I have seen shops refuse to plug in the readers as at times the plug can break and the shop does not want to take that chance.
