Default Transmission Only Goes In Reverse

My 2002 AWD RX300 with 220,000 miles only goes in reverse. I drained and refilled the fluid, put in a new solenoid and filter... still no help. I disconnected the negative battery cable to reset everything... still no help. Ideas?

Thanks! Unfortunately, I just had the shift cable fixed about 8 months ago, so it's not that. Wish it was!

Fluid checked with engine running car on level surface? I have to ask.

The U140E and U140F (yours) is known to die at around 200,000 miles if poorly maintained.

Yup. I bought it at around 170K and have no idea if the former owners took care of the tranny. Doubt it.

Visit to transmission shop is necessary and do the mental math to weigh put your options assuming the current transmission is toast. 3k-5k expense is looming.

Let them know that you have done the repair of cable at top end. They can confirm if the shifter in cabin is matching the shift lever at the transmission. If you have kept the drained fluid, take it along for analysis if required.

Reman from Toyota may be available
https://parts.belllexusnorthscottsda...-48021-84.html

Above is reference only use your VIN to verify correct part number. From what I understand the U transmissions are easy enough to rebuild so yes consider going to a transmission shop hopefully one that routinely deals with Toyota's. Which could be harder than you think, from what I've seen not many are rebuilt or replaced when they die the entire car is scrapped.
