Default RX300 with rear spoiler

Hi all, does your rear wiper makes allot of noise when you use it whether if it's pouring rain or misty??

Ever since I bought my RX new the rear wiper has been making allot of noise, kinda like a scraping noise ( the kind that I hear on my 87 Toyota, but that's acceptable ). The Lexus techs. have replaced the blade insert(s) [ 3 times ], cleaned the glass, and last week replaced the wiper arm to no avail. I was even wondering if the rear spoiler really blocks the glass from getting wet enough for smooth quiet wiping action??

Does anyone else experience this or is there some other defective part that needs to be replaced?

How is your rear wiper on the RX330s also?

Sheldon.

The rear glass doesn't get a lot of water on it while driving. If you are having problems with the wiper blade skipping on the dry glass try applying a coat of glass polish. I've actually used regular car polish (Zymol or Zaino) as well as glass polish on my windshield to make a smooth and quiet wipe - both worked very well for me.

rx469, have you raised this issue under warranty to the dealer as you have a new RX?

I rarely have to use the rear windshield wiper. If I do, it may be only for a single wipe. But with our RX300, I do not notice a lot or any kind of loud noise at all.

LexRX~ The dealer has cleaned the glass to no avail.

Parula~ The RX has been in 5 times for just this issue, which has been there ever since the vehicle was BRAND NEW!! The first time, they changed the wiper blade insert, then cleaned the glass & replaced the blade, "adjusted" the arm replace the blade & cleaned the glass again. 2 Fridays ago they replaced the wiper arm assembly replaced the blade & cleaned the galss, but it STILL makes a loud scraping sound as it moves across the glass!
This is not what I expect from a $40K vehicle!!??

RX300-BV~ Thanks for your reply. I believe your rear wiper is working the way it should!

What do you guys think should be the next step for me & Lexus???

Thanks.

RX469, that's a tough one, I haven't had that on either RX, thankfully. I would put it next to another RX on the lot and wet the window and try to really examine one that has no noise right next to yours; careful observation might turn up something hopefully. Examine angle of blade, speed, etc.

Default RX300 with rear wiper

Ok, this issue is still ongoing.

I cannot say that my NEW RX300 was ever new, because from day 1 i've always had this problem. I am taking the car back in for service -again- on Tuesday [ this service will be the 5th time in for service for hte same problem ] and this time I want to speak to the service manager and if no resolution, I will contact corporate and then whatever next level from there.

I've driven other RX300/330s and no other car makes a LOUD scraping noise on each wipe whether rain or drizzle. In other words, the rear wiper does not ever operate like the from wipers.

I believe a new car should be a new car. And a $40K new car should operate like a $40K new car. I think my dealer is jerking me around.

What does everyone think at this point?

I had the same scrapping / sanding noise on my RX300 brand new. The tech replaced the insert, but didn't help. So I bought the Car&Driver blade from Target ($4.) The noise stopped.

After 2 years, I'm still on the same Car&Driver blade.

huh?? never used my rear wiper, only by accident, actually had a pathfinder before for 3 years and never used it too. Actually i use rainX for my front windshield, because i really hate using the wipers.

Well i'm going in tomorrow for the 5th time for service on my rear wiper. This time I plan on speaking with the service manager and this would be my final straw. After this it's time for Lexus Corporate to get involved and whatever next step from there.....phew.

I can't figure wipers out! I use RainEx too and just bought new wipers for the Honda and they vibrate across the glass under some conditions. Old wipers for 15 years were fine! I think it is the angle of attack, am going to try slightly bending them to give a little more play.
No problems on the RX with RainEx, nice and quite.

You don't need to use RainX on the RX. The windshield and front windows already got a water-repellent coating. At speed, the rain drops fly right off.
