Default 100 K miles coming up.

Well I am getting ready to spin the wheel to 100K miles. Here is a little bit of history of the car. It is a 2001 awd, nav, every option available at the time. I take that back, it doesnt have the rear spoiler. I have had for three years this month. I paid $ 38,500.00 out the door. Thats not too bad for a fully loaded Rx. I just replaced the original Michelin tires. I have performed all the routine maintence myself since day one. I did the timing belt service last month. The car still has the original brake pads, which still have almost 50% left. The only thing I feel I am going to have to replace soon is the struts. They are starting to get a little soft.

Sorry I hit the enter button. I change the oil and filter every 4k miles. I have used Mobil 1 5 w 30 since my first oil change. I have used nothing but a Toyota filter. I removed the oil pan last month to do a little inspecting. It was spotless. There was not one area at all that had any oil vapor film. I figure I will keep driving it until something major needs fixed. My wife drives it full time, not I.

Default Congratulations on getting to 100k!

Toyo,

Great work on getting your unit to the 100k mark! Nice to see you doing the work yourself.

By the way, any deposits at all in the bottom of the oil pan?

I just turned 68k in my '99 as I crossed the White Mountains yesterday:

No, there was nothing in the oil pan at all. I was kinda suprised. I took a lint free towel and wiped off the oil pump screen and nothing was on my rag, just oil. I feel very strongly that the reason for the clean engine was due to the usage of Mobile 1 on a very strict schedule.

toyo, way to go. It's nice to hear a real finding about actual benefit of synthetic. With your experience at 4k changes I feel better about sticking with a 5k rate.

toyo,

Congrats on getting to the 100K mile mark. I have a 2001 RX300 Silversport model. I have almost 28K on my RX. I too have stuck to a strict oil change schedule (every 5K miles). I have heard that our engines have a tendency to sludge. I just changed my oil on Christmas Eve with 5W30 Chevron Supreme dino oil. I added an Auto RX treatment (www.auto-rx.com) to my oil change this time round. I hope that this will prevent sludge buildup cuz I plan to keep my RX 'til death do us part. After my Auto RX clean and rinse cycle, I will then continue to slap in Mobil1 5W30 and hopefully have a nice and clean engine to catch up to your 100K mark.

Congrats once again, toyo.

Toyo must hop on the interstate and never stop until he needs gas. I've never heard of brake pads lasting 100,000 miles!

Well, it is true. My pads are still in good shape. However... My pads make a scrunching sound at times. Toyota made these pads too hard. They have since changed the material to a softer pad. Which in turn will not last as long. Its a give and take world!! My wife drives the car mostly, she drives 96 miles round trip to work and back, which she works about 4 days a week. That doesnt include any other driving. We live on the very north side of Atlanta, so everywhere we go its at least 30 freakin miles.
