Hello.
Our 2001 RX is due for the dreaded 60k service. the closest lexus dealer is 3 hours from my house. Can I trust the local toytota dealer to do this, or should I take a day from work and drive to the lexus dealer?

Your toyota dealership can do it for less. Don't waste your time at Lexus Dealership.

Here in Mexico, they could NEVER do the 60K as I have a few friends down here who read the board, too.

Toyota wants $895 for this service. This seems a bit high, as my GS 60K service was only $650 and that is the quote I got from the Lexus Dealer in Minneapolis (wayzata). This seems strange??

It depends what come with the 60k sevice? They also quoted you with the alignmnet and balace. You will need to ask them for a print out.

Shouldn't this be standardized by lexus, eg) following the recommended service schedule in the owners manual?
oil/filter, coolent flush/fill, alignment/rotate/balance tires, all filters changed, tranny flush?

Just make a copy of your 60k maintenace requirement for your owners manaul or service manual and take it to a independent mechanic. Give the mechanic the copy and ask them to follow that. Will be much cheaper than the lexus dealer.

It appears toyota does more than lexus requires. But still ~$900 is shocking from toyota.

Maybe I will shop around and purchase all the products from toytota/lexus and have the local independent porsche/lexus service guy do the work.

90k Service doesn't come with Alignment,balance and timing belt job. But it's rec.
