Question FWD vs AWD

Are there any visible indicators of whether a RX is FWD or AWD? Can it be looked up by VIN number?

Thanks,

Default re: VIN to tell if RX is FWD or AWD

Not sure if it's the same for RX330's, but when we were researching our RX300 purchase, we were able to decode part of the VIN and if you look at the 5th letter, if it is a F then it's FWD and if it's an H then it's AWD. For example, our VIN starts with JTJGF and from what I learned, the J is for Japan, the second J is for the premium plus pkg, and the F means it's FWD. Haven't learned what the other letters were for. Hope that helps!

Madd, I can validate your FWD indicator theory!

You can also crawl up under your RX and see if there is a rear differential with a drive shaft connected to each wheel and another connected to the front transmission. It's just more fun that way
