Lexus RX300 subwoofer
I have heard that all 1999-2003 RX300's come with subwoofers with the stock sound system. Is that true and where are they located in the vehicle? And what kind of output do they have?

that is correct, the sub is under the passenger seat. depending on your year the sub is either a 2ohm or 1 ohm 5" sub. ive also encountered one year being a sealed plastic enclosure and the newer years being a ported plastic enclosure.
to answer your question, you really cant replace the stock 5" speaker with a better sub. what i would do is add a sub in the cargo area.

RX 300 Subwoofer installation
Has anyone put a subwoofer in the cargo area of a RX300? Without loosing too much space? Anybody know a company that makes a plastic enclosure form. Like the ones from Crutchfield? That would use the small compartment on the right side. Also has anyone put a speaker in the piece that covers the spare tire? One more question. Could I get away with just using a powered subwoofer? And just run the speaker wires from the original subwoofer? Thanks

Thanks for the info. I just picked up a CPO 2001 RX300. And was looking to beef up the stereo. But keep it as original as possible. What I was looking to do is hide the subwoofer as much as possible. They used to sell a nice subwoofer that installed in the spare tire. But havent seen one lately. Thanks agian

Spare tire Subwoofer
I had a friend who owed a Jeep Cherokee. And he had a subwoofer in the spare tire. I believe it was made by Pioneer. And was sold by Crutchfield. On a Cherokee the spare is a full size tire. And it is inside the cab. But mounted against one side of the cabin. In the open with a vinyl cover over it. Im not sure how the speaker was mounted. But I believe you could purchase them in different sizes. Depending on the size spare you had.

On the Basslink subwoofer installation. How did you run the power wires to the trunk area? Can you tap into a wire in the trunk area. Or did you have to run new wires from the engine compartment?

On the wiring. How did you run the power wires? I would like to put mine in the back corner. It should fit and still allow the spare tire cover to open. I can see going through the trunk area for the power wires. But to get to the front. Did you go through the door channels? Was wondering how you kept it all concealed. Including the remote for the basslink. Thanks

KeysRx300 , First off I installed one in a Chevy Astro Van , But the Unit needs a #12 AWG wire from +battery and fuse as close to battery as possible and then ground it near where you mount the sub.
Getting the wire to the battery ,I don't have a RX , so maybe someone else can help. Run all other wires through the door channels and under the carpet , as for the sub level control find a good spot on dash near the head unit. The instructions that come with the sub are pretty good...............as for where the wires come out and go to the sub, just use wire loom from Radio Shack.
Also if you have a good car stereo installtion shop in you area ,they wiil sale you everything you will need to install the sub.................................MIKE

Had a chance to pull the subwoofer out on RX. Its a ported 5 inch round speaker. I was looking at putting a Kenwood KSC- WA62RC wOOx subwoofer. Its almost the same exact size as the base. Has any one modified the original base. And attached this speaker to it?

WOOX Installation
I had my subwoofer assembly out of my 2001 RX last week. Its almost the same size as an WOOX speaker. The Kenwood speaker enclosure is 8 1/4 x 15 3/16 x 4 5/8. The original subwoofer is a little shorter. But there looks to be enough room. I have been looking on eBay to try and get one cheap. But may up just buying one outright.
