Unhappy Help needed on potential problem...

Guys,

I picked up a 2001 RX300 yesterday. When the car is running at idle and I stand next to it I hear like a hissing sound from the rear. It almost sound like what you would hear if you pulled a nail out of the tire. I believe it is coming from the fuel pump as I hear the fuel pump in the same spot with the same sound when the switch it turned on without starting the car and then it stops. When the engine is running it stays the whole time.

My question is if this sound is normal, is it the fuel pump and do other RX300's have it also? Is it a fuel pump problem and if so will the Lexus dealer service it under warranty?

Thanks in advance!

Yes, it is normal, as I have heard it, too.

However, when I have a P0171 Check engine light error, it is more pronounced and also when the fuel level is low or the injectors are clogged. Use some Techron.

I saw your post on TURF, I have the same car/color. I use it for skiing, great in bad conditions. You will like it. . Does your GF know how to drive your car yet? BTW, Blue TT Subs not allowed here.

LOL.....good to see you here. I actually wore my Daytona today.

My fiance can drive the Lexus just fine. I bought it for her really. The Porsche is a 6-speed though so she can't.

LexMex, I haven't heard this on either 300 we've had. How loud is it?

When the car is off, have someone turn the switch on while you stand next to the rear door. You will hear the fuel pump kick in for a few seconds. Imagine the same exact sound all the time when the engine is on.

I heard the sound when my RX300 was brand new. I could hear it even sitting in the vehicle. After a couple of weeks, the noise stopped. So I didn't bother to bring it to the dealership.
