I don't get the new Lexus commercial
the one with the guy in his office who gets the call for a meeting...then he walks over, passing the people tesing out the RX300 truck...and the one employee looks up and sees him and has a scared look in his eye...and the secretary then goes "they're waiting for you" or soemthing like that.
What's that all about?

Commercial
Is shows he is in Stutgart Germany. I suppose he works for BMW or Porshe. Must not be doing a good job compared to Lexus and is going to be fired. HAAAAAAA

That German guy was about to get a surprise early retirement party. No one is jumping out of a cake though.
The commercial would make more sense if the people spoke German with subtitle, or at least fake the accent. "Ja! Yer **** eez freud."

Actually, I thought the commercial was too over the top in that it traded in ****-era symbolism and imagery--the black and white look of the filming, the "foreign" look of the "doomed" manager and they might as well have changed the copy to "The Fuhrer is wating for you" and then had the sounds of a single gunshot behind the closed door.
I feel a bit embarassed that we hold onto sixty year old stereotypes of Germans and what they must think of us for trading on these images.
The "Coventry" version of the commercial is just as bad--pandering to an image of English as happy-go-lucky twits.
Why didn't they do a Detroit version? Were they afraid of a backlash against a Japanese company for bashing American companies?
Overall, bad work by the Lexus agency. I'm also a bit tired of the hoarse voice of their voice-over artist. Time for an entirely different marketing approach.
