Default High RPM @ cold start

I got 2000 rx3000 with 53k mil. last couple morning, the car rev @ 2k rpm at cold start. then decline back to normal after a minute or so. Once warm everything is fine. This seem unnormal to me because my car always rev around 1k at cold start. Anyone experience this problem or any advise? TIA

You may have an air bubble in your coolant. Try bleeing the system and see what happens.

I noticed more problem.. after warm up, if shifft to "P", rpm rev about 1.1k then start decline back to 700rpm. It sounds like some kind sense not working properly? any thoughts

Hey, I got a 2000 RX300 also with 30K on it. I have the same thing as you do too. So i think it's normal. When i first start the car, it rev at 2k then about a min later it goes to like 1.1-1.5.

For long trips, I let the car warm up for 12-13 minutes, and that gets it to about the driving temperature. I never notice what you describe then, but when I let it warm up for 0-3 minutes, I do get the above even after getting up to driving speed.

I've noticed quite a few cars run at higher RPMs right after cold start then idle. Don't think it's anything to be worried about.

Default emssions

thats for emissions reasons, nothing to worry about. It heats up the catalytic convertor faster for optimal effciancy.
