Default Clock and Seat Memory lost overnight

99 RX300- Experiencing loss of memory in seats and radio as well as time on clock being off just from sitting overnight. Vehicle starts with no problem in morning. Looking for clues as to what this may be. This is the original battery so it is pretty old , is it possible that if voltage drops to a certain level as a power saving feature do systems start shutting thenselves off to save battery power?

Appriciate any input .

Where are you located?

I would replace the battery. There are a couple of recent threads about the battery...

Never heard of this. Can't be a fuse. It's either blown or works. Battery? A possibility. Take it to the nearest Autozone, they can see how many volts u have left....

Common problem on this and other forums. It's the battery.

I agree with mikey00, it is the battery. Replace it. I have had this happen with other cars and found out the battery was starting to go.

Angry Follow up to memory loss problem

A couple post earlier I posted regarding the loss of seat, radio and clock memory. I appreciate the responses which support my guess which is that the battery is going. This morning the lcd display was blank. It was lit, blue, however nothing would come up on it. My wife drove a little, stopped the car and then when she came back and restarted it all was back up. Could this be result of battery problem as well? I am guessing that after she drove it the battery charged enough to reboot the screen upon restart.

What I don't understand about all this is how can the battery start the car just fine but can't keep low voltage systems up overnight?

What is a good battery replacement and don't say Autozone, their stuff stinks. What should the amp reading be on the battery so I can tell if my current one is actually going.

Thx

I suspect one cell of your battery is expiring. This would result in a low voltage condition and several of the electronic systems require the correct voltage. You can test for this by using a voltmeter if you have one. Check that the battery voltage is at 12.6 vdc in the morning after the car has been sitting overnight. After starting the car the voltage should be between 14-15 vdc. Another test and a better one is a load test. AutoZone or other similar auto stores will do a load test on your battery for free. This simulates the operation of the battery under a moderate load. Bad Cells show up very quickly in this test.

I've not done a lot of research on battery quality recently but my experience with Interstate batteries has been excellent. You may want to google "auto battery ratings" and see what comes up.

In one of the recent threads there has been battery discussions. You might find what you are looking for there.

Good luck!

For $38 go to Costco and get the battery and get the problem over with. It's cheaper and less hassle than troubleshooting the problem and you can be pretty sure it will solve the problem. A 99 with the original battery is about due anyway.

I don't know anything about the GX. I was basing my comment on info found on this forum (which I thought was an RX forum) and other RX forums I visit. Many RX's (especially 99's) have had this problem corrected with a new battery. You may want to try your question over on the GX forum.

I'm having the same problem. Car starts fine, all the radio stations are retained but the clock resets itself every few nights. Dealership says it needs a new battery but appears clueless as to why or whether this will solve the problem (of course, they're not paying!).
