Question on Optima Battery
I have a 99 RX, and am looking to change out the battery.
Which Optima battery works in the RX and second, is there any modification needed?
I heard there is an adjustment necessary for height, but have not seen what type of part is needed or where to purchase it.
Thanks,
Lexmex

You are going to have to measure the space you have and then see which optima battery will fit in that area. You will also have to look at the cranking amps specs for the RX and make sure the opitma you get meets or exceeds them. You might also have to use different terminals as well.

Well if you go to Pep Boys (a major seller of Optima batteries) there should be someone there to help you find / size the right one.
Lots of cranking power in these batteries. Good choice.

I wish there were a Pep Boys around. Unfortunately, I live in Central Mexico and most batteries are LTH, which is garbage. I noticed the other day that on my Lexus battery it says, "Made in Mexico."
I am going to try a couple of high-end shops down here to see if they sell it, otherwise, will wait until I take it up to the States or order it once I take some measurements.

The Optima website claims they don't have a battery for the RX or the Highlander. Not sure why that is. If one would fit you would think they would want to sell more batteries. Here is a response I received from a Highlander owner who had a Optima installed:
"They installed a 75/35 with the included platform--fits perfectly. If the length of the battery cables is not a concern, not sure how it is on the RX300, I'd go with the 34/78 which is better."
Be sure and let us know how you make out so we know what to expect when the time comes.

LexMex, I think all the Optima batteries are the same size. The issue I had in my GS was that the optima that was for my car was much smaller than the OEM battery, so it sat too far down. We actually used the little stand it came with (inverted) to set it one and that raised it just enough. The issue was with the flex of the Lexus power cables - they were very hard to bend to reach the plus/minus terminals.
There are places where you can order the optima online. Assume you can get one delivered to Mexico.

I usually have all my parts sent down from the states, but may wait until I make a trip to the U.S. to stop by a Pep Boys. Glad to know they give you the adapter.
I found out from my local Toyota dealer just yesterday, that finally Lexus will be coming to Mexico sometime around February of 2005. Mazda and Subaru will be joining them. Acura is coming year in December.
