Default 60k Maintenance

OK this has probably been discussed way to much, at least when I did a search it came back with a lot of input, I was at the dealer today and they said I was close to the 60k maintenance and wanted $599, is this what everyone has been paying? Do you really feel that it made a difference? How about a quick poll with just a yea or ney to do it, I dont really want to start rehashing the technical pros and cons, if you want do that, then do the search as I did.

Make the dealer break down that price to tell you exactly what services will be done. Then, compare that list to the list of required services in the manual. The dealer is probably upselling like crazy, adding things you really don't need. Unfortunately, asking for the "60K maintenance on an RX" is way too vague.

You'll probably end up asking them for a price for exactly the things you need using your manual. The price will be lower than $599, but still may not be acceptable. So, then you should call a couple of dealers and shop around.

A Toyota dealer is also an option. The RX shares the powertrain with V6 models of the Sienna and the Highlander, so they should know what they're doing. Toyota dealers usually don't have leather couches and buffets, though.

Actually, that's not a bad number. Many, if not most, dealers put EVERY owner on Lexus' "rough duty" schedule which calls for more extensive services at virtually every service interval. As you can see when you peruse your manual, most owners likely do NOT fall into that category based on the usage of their vehicles (tho that's a moot point; it only matters to you what your usage is.).

The difference between the rough duty and normal duty schedule on our first RX (a 99 AWD) was $1300 vs $270. Dealership owners have discovered that the Service dept can be a seperate source of profit for them. I'm not saying that this is a good or bad thing, but I do believe that the engineering might of T/L is fully capable of determining proper maintainence for vehicles which they have designed.

Will the additional/extra maintainence hurt the car? Of course not. Will it extend the life of the vehicle? Not unless the car actually fits those "rough duty" requirements.
