an RX300 for prototyping and developmental use.

I would definitely like some feedback from RX owners as to what they would like to see available for the RX and we will decide which direction to go from your feedbacks.

PS. As I drive the RX more and more, I tend to really like it, however it really has poor gas mileage.

MIC, glad to hear it (though my wife may not, since the RX is her car).

Re gas mileage: define "poor". Most of us seem to get in the 17-18 range with AWD in mostly urban/suburban driving. That, to me, doesn't seem too bad when you consider that the behemoths (Suburban/Excursion/Leviathan/Godawmightythatsabigone!!) get mileage that's lucky to break 10 mpg.

Mods for me: shocks/springs/braces......don't think SHE WHO KNOWS AND MUST BE OBEYED will go for anything else. But I know a lot of the members will want more power in the form of improved and/or forced induction!!

Thanks for asking!!!

Performance parts ie. computer programmer, forced induction, bigger sway bars, and better flowing exhaust but still quiet.

Wow... great news!

Poor gas milage? Heck we're getting 20 mpg in mixed driving on our '01 AWD. For a two ton vehicle that's pretty good.

Mods:
Handling. But you still have to have that "lexus" ride comfort.

Some sort of forced air induction would be great, especially if it could be easily removed for "warranty service" time.

woah, love to hear that! Glad to hear more interest in the Lexus best seller!

I would love to have a wider wheels that fits within the fenders without spacers (17 or 18).

The handling (sway bars) while maintainin a smooth ride is also appealing.

One of the most important things i think of would be the exhaust. One with a nice deep throaty sound (not a hight pitched winey sound) but still quiet). Probably a tail pipe larger in diameter than stock and that comes straight out the back that works with the stock trailer hitch.

Oh, and gas mileage here too is averaging around 20.5 more or less with mixed driving - going down now to 19.7 with pure city driving. I consider since i like the take the gas pedal down quickly because the RX feels so lively.

Thanks for the interest in the RX...I hope to see some cool things happening with your project!

Nice to hear that you (Mohammad) intend to work/improve the RX.

The big question is which (read how many) owners of RX would like to modify their ride? [I dont want to dampen your enthusiam]

Here are the areas which in my view are important to RX owners:

1. Comfort/convenience: This includes post production enhancements like extra monitors (game consoles), NAV, TV, DVD, internet etc in the electronics. Quiet (free of wind and road noise interior ... as you know RX is quite)

2. Improved handling: to rival X5 without compromising the comfort factor.

3. Faster 0-60

4. Improved off road capability.

5. Slight visual clues to look different.

I think the rank order is correct. Also note that reliability is very important. RX crowd may not be as understanding or willing to work out kinks in mods.

Most of all nothing that voids manufacturers warranty.

I want to see the compass mirror in the 2001 RX's for the 2000's The mirror is $600 from the dealer!!! I was told it may not work on a 2000 either b/c of the wiring harnesses - they may be different.

Default What I would love to see

I would love to see the compass mirror just as lexRX does and also a NAV system on the 2000 RX.

Thanks!

Default Prototype

I'd love the RX but I think there are somethings that need to be worked on.

1) Nav, plus optional TVs
2) 0-60 is really bad 8.8 seconds come on, I'm growing old. Make it 6.5-7.0.
3) Turning radius is terrible!!! need I say more?
4) Maybe a little bit wider, (not very stable due to width)
this would help when conering.
5) The back is really really round, straighten out the hatch just a little bit, something between the Highlander and the RX itself.
6) Backseats need to be more luxurius, something that other small SUVs does not have, like tilt feature, something needs to be done.
7) Redesigned cup-holders, those things in the RX are annoying, The center console is cool, but the cupholders are too flimsy.

Mo,

There are very-few after-market products out there for the RX. I would be interested in seeing more performance because by bet is that TRD for the Highlander will come out with the ruggedness equipment.

So as mentioned in Silversport01 comment I too agree. I would not burn R&D effort or $$$ on NAVs and mirrors.

Horsepower and Handling should come first- all else is secondary.

OK here is the ball game:

The 1st mod will be the High Flow ECU tuned intake system, very similar to the GS and IS setup. We are expecting at least a 20HP increase and about 1.5-2 mpg improvement. Available in 4 weeks.

After that will come two mild flavors of supercharged forced induction:
Stage 1: 4.5 PSI non intercooled ~ +75HP
Stage 2: 6.5 PSI intercooled ~ 120HP
The FI kits will be available sometime in late August.

Thanks guys/gals I will keep you informed as time progresses.

PS. The HRE wheels can fit wider wheels without the need for spacers.
