Default Tail light indicator is on, but no lights out

On my dash, the tail light indicator is on, although I don't have any lights out, that I can find. RX300 ('00).

Perhaps one of the reverse lights is out. Have a friend help you check it.

Maybe it's your 3rd brake light.

I know this thread is old, but i mine as well post it here, since i am having the same problem.

Just bought my 99 RX300, during the day with the lights on, the "bulb out indicator" is not on.. But then when its night time, the damn bulb out indicator light comes on.....

I had my wife press on the brakes, turn on the lights, etc while im behind the suv to make sure all the bulbs are okay, and they all work fine!!

So whats the deal here??? I can't figure it out...

Its only at night time when the bulb indicator light comes on.

Any clues what it might be guys?

The bulb out indicator works by detecting difference in resistance (ohm.) It's possible that the previous owner used a blub that's out of spec, causing variance in resistance.

Also check the reverse lights and side markers. And check tow hitch wiring if you have one.

Sidemarker burnouts won't trip the warning light. My RX300 have both front sidemarker bulbs rusted out due to moiture, no light turned on. It is not license plate bulbs also, one went out two months ago on me and there was no warning.

I had a similar situation where the dash light showed tail light trouble but every thing looked OK. It remainded like that for a week and finally the tail brake light popped.

As John pointed out, the trouble indicator is measuring the right amount of current. In my case the current change was registered before the offending bulb popped.

So if no one has messed with the light/bulbs just wait couple of days till the bulb actually popps.
