Because of their reporting requirements and laws enacted to thwart the use of cash by drug dealers perhaps.

Hmmm, that's weird. I bought my car using cash, but I honestly don't remember if they asked for my SS#.

Well, if you don't want to give it to them, just give them a fake one. By the time they find out, you'll be on your way to work the next day.

It may be because of the Patriot Act. I had to fill out all sorts of paperwork to western union a large amount of money

This is true. Anytime an amount of cash over 10,000 will need to be reported to the gov't. Just take a loan with Lexus and pay it off in 1 week. they don't have pre-payoff penalties.

All money transactions over $10,000 must be reported per Federal law. Also it prevents drug money laundering.

I paid with certified check, so no SS# required since my bank had already recorded the transaction.

Do not give them a fake SS# that constitutes fraud and also violates other federal laws I am sure.

Bad idea. By the time they find out, Federal agents would be all over him and he'd be on his way to jail the next day. He'd be sitting on a chair under a light for 72 hours.

That's a good question... why can't they just use your driver's license #? Or why any #'s at all?? I'd ask the dealership's manager...

Just transpose two digits of ss.

That way you can just claim that you made an accident

Oh, when I heard cash, I automatically thought that meant a certified bank check. I didn't know people still carry a load of cash with them to the dealership. Pretty damn stupid if you ask me. What if you get robbed while you're on your way?

You have to be kidding me, is it really worth the possible hassle that he may have to deal with. Give me a break and use your head and good judgement!!!
