Oil Foaming Issues Fixed Yet
Way back when there was discussion here regarding oil foaming issues and resulting engine wear. This occurred during high speed driving. I don't remember all the particulars but this was an issue. Am thinking about trading my wife's 99 300 for a newer one and was wondering about this problem and if it has been addressed.
Otherwise, it looks like the transmission seems to be the biggest issue on the newer models. Some things never change. We had ours fail at 60,000 miles but it was handled under warranty. The number of such failures really bothers me, after all it is a Lexus and one really doesn't expect such problems. I have a bad feeling about these new transimissions and all the shift issues and jerkiness being reported. When did Lexus change the transmission from those used back in 99? Just wondering how long these new ones have been on the road.
Thanks

Oil foaming is usually resulted from over-filling the crankcase. So check your oil after an oil change. If it's overfilled, consider telling the tech to remove some.
My mechanic in NYC used 5 bottles of oil and it got to the F line percisely. The local Lexus and Toyota here routinely overfill by about 1/4 quart. I checked the oil twice after high speed driving, the oil looked clear (no bubble nor milk shake appearance) so I guess 1/4 quart over is acceptable.
The new auto tranny is 5-speed vs 4-speed in the past. Consumer Reports survey shows the RX tranny being very reliable with less than 2% of the owners reporting issues. I guess that ClubLexus members are more an*l (I mean passionate ) about our Lexii and tend to be picky compared to general public.

Todd, did your tranny fail on the 300? How many years out?
Harrier, I prefer to think, and from my observations at CL I believe, that most posters here are aware intelligent consumers interested in understanding our vehicles and fostering communicating issues concerning them to others for everyone's, and Lexus's, benefit.
