Default Exhaust leak. Please help me understand! Picture attached

For a week now I have a exhaust leak on my 99Rx300. The leak is at connection of two pipes seen in the picture attached. My guess is that some washers or something similar needs to be replaced "at the connection" rather than replacing the pipes themselves.

Thanks

Srinivas:

There is gasket that goes between the flage joint. This is a part that needs to replaced every tiime the flange joint is separated. Just open the nut/bolt assembley and stick the "o" ring gasket. When you tighten make sure you tigten the nut/bolts evenly (1/2 turn each) at a time after they start squeezing.

I would also reccomend investigate why the leak happened. Maybe some one did not replace the 'o' ring gasket or the pipes are not ligning up straight.

Also keep in mind that the exhaust nut/bolts get rusted together due to heat cycles. Having a hammer-wrench helps. Soaking the threads with liquid wrench or similar product overnight will loosen the crud. In extreme cases one has to cut off the bolt. It is very possible that the nut is wleded on to one of the pieces and the bolt is the only thing you can theread/unthread.

If you plan to DIY make sure that you can unthread both and not just one... just in case you need to drive it to a muffler shop.
