Retracting antenna making noise
#1
Lexus drivers,
Maybe this is a general question and not just related to RX300's.
Ive noticed recently when I turn off my radio and when my antenna starts to retract, it starts to make a rattling noise half way down. I can hear it standing 5 feet away from the car. Its even louder inside the car. It sounds horrible.
Could it be that it just needs more lubrication? Will that help?
Thanks guys

Lube would be a good start.
Extend the mast (run the radio). Soak one end of a rag with cleaner like WD40 and wipe the mast clean. Take some lithium grease and smear a light coat. Operate the mast up and down couple of times and wipe the mast clean with a rag.
If you leave too much grease, then the dust would stick to it and mess it up. If you use WD40 or equiv penetrating oil only, it would not give you the right lubrication.
Also look for bent/crooked mast. I would recommend replacement at that time. Things usually get worse if you try to bend it in the opposite direction.
