Default Is This It ??

Looks awfully agressive for a quiet tire!

The Bridgestone Dueler 687s didn't do so well when rated by 155 real users at tirerack. Most said "probably not" when asked if they would buy the tire again. The Michelin Cross Terrains beat the 687s by a lot in every category.

Looks like the Alenza rates much better:

No, that's the all terrain Dueler A/T.

This is the H/T D687

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....1=yes&place=10

Take the Tire Rack survey with a grain of salt. People usually don't value OEM tires. Spending $120 or so per tire make people feel good.

The D687 does about everything well except winter traction, which is why Lexus put GY Integrity on some RX300s - a little better, but not good enough in Colorado.

Based on the treadwear rating (700 vs. 300) I think the price difference is jusified??!!

The 687 treadwear rating of 300 is the worst I have ever seen. The Cross Terrains with a treadwear rating of 700 will last over twice as long as the 687s.

700 is rock hard. That kind of compound won't do jack for ice traction. I wouldn't touch it.

Not true. 700 is the treadwear rating of the highly rated Cross Terrains. One of the best for ride comfort, noise and bad weather handling. Check it out at tirerack. Don't go by consumer reports. They tested the OEM version of the Cross Terrains which is only around 400. I have almost 60K on my set of cross terrains and will be getting a second set soon.

OK,

It's 700 AB in this size:

I know the rating is 700. What is untrue is the claim that they are rock hard. They rate as one of the best riding tires ever.

I was talking about Cross Terrains vs. 687s. The Cross Terrains have a treadwear rating of 700 and the 687s only have a rating of 300. 300 may be the worst rating I have ever seen for a tire. The Cross Terrains should have over twice the life of the 687s. There was a comment made about 700 being rock hard and that must mean poor ice traction. You can't take a treadwear rating and if it's good, assume the compound is hard and has poor ice traction because of it. There are many more factors involved here. If you look at Tire Rack ratings you will see the Cross Terrains are far ahead of the 687s in every catagory including all traction catagories.
I currently have Cross Terrains and will be needing replacements in the not too distant future. I am going to play it safe and stick with Cross Terrains. Alenzas do have very good specs and look like an interesting alternative.

mikey,

Please check the link I provided. The Dueler "ALENZA" is a completely different tire than the regular 687. The Alenza is one of the highest rated tires at Tirerack.

Yes, I know. That is why I said the Alenza was an interesting alternative to the Cross Terrains. It's the 687s that have the poor ratings. I just decided to play it safe and stick with Cross Terrains.
