dealer says im leaking engine oil from the drive shaft and transmission connection. Its not dripping, but they said its definitely leaking engine oil and not the transmission oil. I will check my garage floor later, but theres no puddle under the car. So i put off fixing it right on the spot. I admit my driving style is far from gentle and my climate and conditions in my area is humid/hot and non-stop traffic. But this sounds a little ridiculous coming from a Lexus. My car so far has zero troubles, but the tech warned me this fix will cost me. I never had a engine oil leak on such a low mileage car!!!
Does anyone else has samiliar problems, please help.
Thank you.

Sounds like a rear main seal leaking. Should be covered under New Car Warranty OR the Lexus Certified Used vehicle warranty. This rear main seal leak is common due to the poor design of the original seal. Costs $500-$700.

AT 54K I just had rear main seal replaced under warranty, oil leaked is type T oil, gear oil not engine oil.
Lexus also told me that my power steering pump also is leaking oil and needs replacement. I still have PS fluid at Max in the reservior. If PS is leaking, don't you lose some PS fluid?

Never had the problem on a Lexus, but having replaced several American PS pumps, I believe on a few you can elect to replace just the pump, salvaging the old reservoir and saving a bit of money. If you're not intimidated by a little simple blacksmithing, it's a good savings. Check with Lexus/Toyota parts to see what options are available.

I must be unlucky, at 36K, cam seal leak; 54K, rear main seal leak.
That is on top of driver side headlight fogging up at 33K, now passenger side headlight starts to fog. Both front sidemarkers bulbs rusted out at 50k.
I am changing tranny ATF every 15K and using synthetic engine oil - hope the tranny will not blow and engine will not gel after powertrain warranty expire in 6 months.

I had the same problem at about 70K. Rear main seal replaced under warranty. The service ticket said it was about a $900 job but it did not cost me anything. The dealership should know that this is a pretty common problem with the 300 and not argue about it at all.

but i asked twice and specifically dealer said its engine oil. But i just put in 1/2 quart of Lucas engine treatment which also help stop leaks. let see what happens. but car seems to be smoother and faster after the additive! maybe its just in my head, but serious the car feels better.

Mother in law's 00 RX just had the rear main seal replaced, under warranty, with 35k miles on the clock. Nervously eyeing my 01 as well. I have 54k on mine, and nothing yet.
Anyone know what years this occurs with?
