Default Who has actaually used Camper Mode in their RX300?

Ever since learning about removing the RX300 head rests and putting the front seats all the way up and down then putting the back seat down flat to convert the RX300 to sleep 2, I wondered how well it works. I plan on going camping next month and would prefer to not bring a tent. I know this feature was well documented with pictures on the Japanese Toyota Harrier site, but it wasn't well advertised in the States, might have to do with the average Japanese person being shorter.

How well does it work?

I have enough room by dropping the rear seat backs alone (i.e., from the rear of the front seats to the rear hatch. I've seen the pictures of dropping the front seat backs down too, but never felt the need to try it.

I've slept pretty soundly for an hour or two simply by laying the driver's seat all the way back and the passenger's seat part way back, putting a very large pillow between the seat backs. It doesn't sound too comfortable, but for roadside naps or a short snooze it's quite nice. (and I would make about three of the average Japanese. . .)

If you insist on a tent this has been posted before: http://www.tentsontrucks.com/suvtent.html

I have spent 2 nights in my RX while moving from Seattle to Phoenix. With all my life's possessions in the trailer I didnt want to be far away and sleeping in the car was the best security. Put the seats back with the heater running and it was quite comfortable.

However, depending on how demanding you are as a sleeper and what position you sleep in- your results may wary.

Wow I have never seen the front seats being dropped all the way down with the back seats. Any of you got a link to these pictures. I usually just put the back seats down for quick naps.

It'd work well if you are under 5' 6". I tried it once, the length is too short for Americans even on the passenger side. (Yes, I did push the rear bench all the way back.)

Someone posted the pictures from the Toyota of Japan site. It was a cut away picture looking down on an RX300 with no Roof all seats down and in positions and some fishing gear. I'm sure you can find the pictures with a search, I copied them down but can't find where I put them at the moment.

Sounds like it would be a little cramped for those of use that are over 6' tall, but just the fact that Lexus included a camper mode is a great idea.

Does all RX300 have this camper mode? Bought a 2001 a couple of days ago, and got curious on sleeping possibilities. Anyone who cold post photos? Sorry btw for old thread resurrection.

I wouldn't call it a camper mode. You can get about 6 feet of sleeping space without dropping the front passenger seat.

I sometimes drop the front passenger seat flat to transport seven or eight foot pieces of lumber.
