Default Problem with Center Console Instrument Panel Lights for RX300 AWD

I apologize in advance if this has been addressed before, but the instrument panel for the radio and center console doesn't light up at all. It use to automatically light up when the headlights turned on (both manually and automatically). I also noticed the center lcd display would dim slightly whenever the headlights turned on. It doesn't even do this anymore. Any help would be greatly appreciated. TIA.

Default Console lights out

I just bought a 1999 RX 300 from Carmax (as an aside, I really liked dealing with them – something I did not expect walking in the door). On the test drive I noticed that I didn’t have any center console lights. To complete the purchase they promised to fix the problem - which they did. They gave me a service bill to show their work. This included parts and labor cost – which was $0.00 for me.

Here’s the breakdown --
Labor $82.00
Parts $13.19

The part needed was a “console ash receptacle lighting assemble/harness.”

They had my car for the day, and gave me a loaner.

FYI, they first checked the fuse, but found there was a short in the above part.

Good Luck

Thanks. I'll have it checked out at my next service interval.

spudd:
I have the same problem. Did you have the problem fixed and was it the assemble/harness tommass mentioned? If not any help on the situation.
Thanks,

In my experience the cigarette lighter receptacle illumination device is prone to short out; the relevant fuse is # 44 in the fuse block behind the little door directly in front of your left knee while sitting in the car.

My center display panel is flickering sporadically. I wonder if I have the same issue, in some fashion. Problem is, I can't repeat it in a few minutes to have a tech verify the issue so they'll fix it under warranty, least that is what dealers have told me before.

Any idea if the lighter problem was remedied before the '03 model?
much tia
