All,

I'm curious to know if any of you have had any sort of history problems with "blown head gasket" on either the Rx300 or Rx330??

Thanks.......

My 99 RX300 AWD has 131K, NO blown head gasket, NO engine problem, NO transmission problem, NO A/C problem, NO Sludge!

The only 2 problems so far: Starter & dirty IACV(these are consumables/ normal wear)

Preventive maintenance: I replaced following items @ 120K miles: Timing belt,tensioner,2-idler pulleys, waterpump, crankseal & 2 cam-seals.

Has anyone experienced any transmission problems?
If yo do, please specify:

1.did you buy the car new or used?
2.how many miles when it happened?
3.what year is your RX?
4.is it AWD or FWD?
5.Have you ever had transmission oil change/flush by NOT USING Toyota type-4-transmission oil?

Thank you,

My car is in for service today and I might have a bad head gasket. Why do you ask? Did you have one and what did they do for you?

How does your dealer claimed that you have blown head gasket? Did you see the coolant contaminated by oil, and the oil contaminated with coolant? did you see white smoke from the mufler?

How many miles on your RX & what year is it? Have your engine ever experienced "Overheated" and you keep driving it? I belief on this engine, they use MLS(multi layer steel) head gasket that is far more reliable than the old-asbestos type.

don;t let the shop fool you.

I noticed white smoke when starting the car. I noticed coolant level decreasing. I noticed the car using excessive amounts of oil.

2001, 58k, well maintained, all regular intervals done.

I would have to believe Lexus would cover this problem being only 8,000 miles out of warranty.

Gobble,

Are you sure is white smoke vs. just steam clear smoke??. Usually, in the mornings when it is cold you will see the steam smoke coming out the exhaust pipe then dissapears. That's normal.

I had a 94' Toyota 4Runner that was notorious for blown head gasket. Not an easy or cheap repair. Now, that I have the 05' Rx330 I hope I don't encounter the same problem.

I was getting at first, "White Smoke" really white. Then, it got worst came out Blue. The coolant was getting into the engine. Coudn't drive it anymore.

We see occasionally an unusually long burst of white smoke. The car is also using lots of oil and some antifreeze. The dealer is tearing down the engine right now trying to figure out what the problem is. Luckily, I figured out the car as a 6 year, 70,000 mile powertrain warranty.
