Default Resetting ECU for MPH display

Search the forum but wasn't sure if the posts solved my issue.

I just bought a used 2002 Lexus RX300. Sweet car. I have one issue, the MPH display nevers seems to go above 20 MPH. I've held down the INFO button but doesn't seem to help. Forums post seems to sugggest removing negative clamp from battery which should reset the ECU but I thought holding down the INFO button was the same thing.

Any chance something is wrong?

I don't have my owners manual in front of me, but I don't recall any MPH function, other than the analog speedometer. Are you sure it doesn't say "AVG MPH", i.e., average miles per hour". I recall an average miles per gallon function, an average miles per hour function, and a couple of others.

Could be, but help us figure out what you exactly are trying to do with what?

It seems you want to reset the info display in the center console. .. the one that cycle average MPG, running MPG, average Speed, time from start every time you press "info" button. The average displays can be reset by pressing and holding the info button for 5sec (approximately). [This is how it is on '99RX without nav]. If you have the nav then the process may be different. Check your owner's manual.

Checked the manual. Yep, it's average MPH. Still it seems low since I've been on the highway. I'll have to reset the tripometer before I hit the highway. I would expect it to go up to 50-60 avg mph.

It's amazing how quickly a single stop light or driving in a neighborhood will bring down your avg mph. I'm not sure about this but I beleive this is calculated from the time the car is started, not the time it's actually moving.
