Hello, I have a 2001 RX300 and just noticed the steering column has a creaking noise to it when you turn the wheel more than 1/4 turn in any direction. Any ideas on what this could be?
It doesn't sound like power-steering, more like something may be rubbing in the steering column.
Thanks

I remember asking Lexus about this and they lubed my steering column and no more squeaking.
I wash my engine compartment every so often and I hear a different kind of squeaking when I turn the wheel so I had to lube that joint with some grease and no more issues.
I noticed that both issues occur when it is cold weather.

follow the steering column to the footwell.
lub the base of the column where it passes through the firewall, you should see a seal there. This is what is causing the squeek/ whining sound...

I had the same whining sound in my 99 RX300. I brought it down to the dealer and like it says in the previous quote, follow the steering column down to the floor and lube it up at the seal. No more crying and whining except for the kid in the back.
Thanks for the good advice.

Just the topic i was looking for.
I noticed the whining noise and Lexus just made it worse so now there's wire harness noise whenever i turn the wheel a little. Bringing it in again for service next week. I'm gonna tell them about lubing that boot and see if they can do it.
