Changing Spark Plugs, Need help!
Hey guys I'm the new guy on the forum,
I just purchased my 99' RX300 AWD about two months ago. I go through half a tank of gas in two days on 90 Octane. I don't drive it much, only on the weekends so I asked my bro in law about my situation and he said there could be carbon build up on the plugs. So I went out to buy some NGK Platiums and decided to take a crack at it. To my disbelief, the plugs are split up from front to behind the intake manifold. Has anyone had issues with fuel economy because my LCD reads avg 16.7 mpg. Thats pretty darn low. Is this normal for the RX300? Just want to know if anyone has had this problem and solved it with tinkering with their vehicle. I also thought about adding MSD Ignition or some sort of power pack to get better spark to save on gas. Any info on aftermarket ignition would also be helpful. As for installing the plugs. It looks pretty tight behind the manifold. Any advice will be helpful. Thanks guys.

Dump those plugs. And yes the rear plugs are a pain...even the two volume service manual DOES NOT show you how to do the rear plugs. My uncle and I had to squeeze to get the plugs in there.
I put in Torquemaster sparks and so far they seem to burn up the gas pretty well (did not hear any gas popping out the back end) but I did not see the MPG improve until I added the Sun Automobile Hypervoltage System (type MR) and also their grounding wires (type S). You can get these at the L-Tuned section of Carson Toyota.
I am waiting on some ES300 spark wires from Vitek that according to them will fit in the RX300 (remember both have 1MZFE engines).
Over the past few weeks the gas mileage has stayed in the 14s (much better) and remember I am at high altitude (7,000 feet +) and with bad burning gas (Pemex).
