Man, the Lexus service people were shocked to see so many miles in the engine!

Presumably the oil was not changed..........should you have engine problems within the warranty period I would bet that the dealer will no longer consider them as warrantied problems.
Possibly your sister will be willing to pay for the new motor out of her allowance......

Be fair guys!
American built engines are now available that require NO service for 100K. American built BMW X5 has pre-paid scheduled maintenance (interval ??).
Out of curiosity, how long did it take to do 30,000 miles? Service has both mileage and time (which ever comes first) restrictions.

Your point is well taken, Salim, but service, at least to this one time gaspump jockey, includes regular oil and filter changes. I know of NO car company who would be willing to guarantee the mechanical integrity of their motor in the absence of adequate lubrication. Other service issues such as plugs, points (oh, right, we haven't had those for a couple of decades), etc, sure. But the implication here, tho epk did not come out and confirm it, is that there were no oil changes. Not a car I want to buy used.

Any engine, no matter what brand needs some maintenance. Without it, things wear down significantly and will not last as long as you expect.
This is a nightmare of a story, 30K miles without service. How could you treat this Lexus Baby this way? :-)
