I am new to the forum, and after searching this forum, I cannot find any mention of what kind of deals are available on the RX. I am trading my '99 in for a new one, and I am hoping to benefit from your experience.
I am looking for 2001,4wd, non-navi, premium package w/heated sets, HIDs, spoiler, wood wheel in the Washington DC area. What kind of deal is reasonable right now? I have a $800 over invoice deal running. Is that good?
I have had my '99 4wd appraised by carMax for $26,500 (a little low as I have 40k miles on it.) It has the premium packages, heated seats, CD changer. Has anyone else had their car appraised?
Thanks
Quaz

I would say 3 to 3500 off of msrp for an '01 RX at this time of the year. I bougt mine this exact time last year and got nearly 4k off msrp.
I'm actually helping a friend negotiate a new '01 RX. This one dealer is being very difficult about going down enough on price. They are trying to sell a SilverSport demo with 5k miles like it has no miles on it.

We bought an RX 300 on July 2 at Silver Spring Lexus. It has all the equipment you describe and we paid about $300 over invoice.
I faxed an e-mail to each Lexus dealer in the Baltimore Washington area, to the attention of the General Sales Manager. I set out the invoice price and the MSRP on each item and made an offer of about $300 more than invoice. I explained that with the dealer holdback, the profit for the dealership would be around $1,000.
Within two hours of sending the e-mail, Silver Spring called and told me they would meet my price if we bought it that night. July 2 was the end of an accounting period - month, quarter or fiscal year, I'm not sure which. But, as June 30 was on a Saturday, the accounting period extended to close of business Monday. It was clear that the dealership had incentive to move the vehicle off the lot that night.
By the end of the night, we had an RX 300 in our garage. We also had two e-mails from other dealerships telling us that it would be impossible to find an RX 300 for the price we offered. One fellow who I had dealt with via AutoByTel castigated me for sending the e-mail ...("I have already given you a price.....").
By the way, the folks at Silver Spring Lexus have been very easy to deal with and have treated us very nicely.
Good luck.

We bought our '99 in March of 1999 and at the time I got it for between 500 and 1000 over invoice, or about $34,500, which at the time was a steal because most folks in the Pacific Northwest were paying over 40K. Ours is fully loaded, except Nakamichi. I've added Chrome wheels and Gold Kit (Although I got the Gold Kit aftermarket for $120 through the Internet, the dealer wanted $700! they wanted 2K for the wheels, I got them for $500 exchange.)
So I feel like I got a great deal at the time, especially when dealers had waiting lists early on. I too was laughed at by another dealer when I told them I could get one for $34.5 from another dealer. I later drove our car by that dealer for an oil change and showed it to the salesman.
I would suspect since the RX-300 is no longer the "new" SUV on the block and a much tighter economy that some good deals can be found.

Thanks to everyone!
Thanks for the responses. I usually use the "fax attack" as described by aslaw. It is the best way to buy without hassle.
aslaw, the deal there was great! I'll try them, and others in the area.

I brought a 2001 SilverSport awd, HID, rear spoiler, heated seats, cargo mat, wheel locks for $37.5K. I needed the vehicle right away but I think that if I waited until the end of June I could have gotten a better deal. I read somewhere that the SS weren't selling as well as anticipated.
I'm still happy with my purchase though.

I just purchased a Silversport through CarsDirect.com for invoice. All the local dealers were $800 to $1200 over invoice. I was amazed at the price and how quick and easy it went. I typicaly just fax dealers and buy through fleet sales. This was even better.
Nala! Did your Silversport with HID also have the Nav package? I wanted HIDs badly but couldn't find any type of Silversport with them.
