Default Wheels

In HyperRev Magazine, I saw this black RX330 (and my RX300 is black) with Zeit SS rims. I really like the open look with these wheels, but with everything we buy we also have to look at competitors.

I would appreciate any commentary regarding them as these are my current finalists though I will not be buying until I return to the U.S. I will switch out the tires accordingly at the same time.

Maybe it's just me, but those wheels, with the very thin spokes and thin rim, surrounded by the low-profile rubber, don't seem to fill the wheel openings well. They appear to be about 14" rims with some pretty thin rim protectors. Perhaps it's the combination of the black body, wheel well, and the black rubber that makes these wheels look like they came off of a very small farm wagon.

LOL.

Actually, I wanted no more than 5-6 spokes. I have seen some TTE wheels that look nice except for the fact they have too many spokes. These rims that were finalists came in 17-18 inches, too.

Lexmex,
What ever you choose, get forged rims with lightweight grip tires. I am sure you already know the benefits: for every lbs you save in wheel/tire combo, you save an equivalent of 2 lbs of weight elsewhere in the car. Static weight (1x) saving applies to all driving condition, but it is the saving at RX's turning wheels which gives you additional 1x benefit during acceleration and braking.

SSR Competition 18x7.5 is Semi Solid Forged for 15.5 lbs per rim, Volk Racing RE37 is also forged for 17 lbs per rim. My choice of tire is Pirelli Scorpion Zero 235/60/18, it has a V rated 149mph and 103 load rating 1929lbs, even though it is 3lbs heavier than OEM but far better grip and wider footprint. I believe the OEM alloy rim is 22lbs per, have you weight one to confirm?

I could have sworn those OEM rims I have are 26 lbs. per

I think my uncle has one of my old 235 CrossTerrains lying around and I could weigh that one and then another one with the rim and compare the difference as I am not changing tires until perhaps the end of the year.

Wow 26lbs, that is >40 lbs I am going to lose at four wheels, talk about more effective hp. Could not wait until I get my Pirellis, mount on those SSR, torque them with Muteki cold forged lug nuts, and start

I have heard once before on this forum how when they changed to lighterweight rims and upgraded the tires to 17, 18 or 19, the RX felt like a race car when they floor it. Though that person also had the same type of Pirellis you wanted.

Default Here's my RX with Volk LE37N's in gunmetal

Here's my RX with Volk LE37N's in gunmetal, very very light rims, I think I must have saved almost 10 pounds per wheel:
