Economics: The factory HIDs are not that expensive, once you look at the complete package. After market HIDs and improper installation should not be an option [Hint; no self levelling].

Spend the extra money and get the factory HIDs.

However if the Self levelving sensor goes bad like mine did. It goes for $412
I know i had to pay for it. By the way does anyone know where this sensor is located and do they have pics?

What type of symptoms did you have when the sensor went bad?

I have 99 service manual, but that year HID was not an option. IN GS they are mounted on the body near the front and back wheels.

No one can claim that Lexus repair service is cheap. Luckily it is not required frequently.

Talking HID/Xenon Over-rated?

I recently had the opportunity to drive an '05 ES330 with the Xenon or HID,whichever it had, and I was not impressed with it. I'm sure they were not Halogen because they did the flip thing when you first turn on these lights.

Either I was told or read that Xenon produce a brighter, purer white light, so that it lights the road ahead in a more natural lighting. If natural lighting at night means not being able to read signs on the side of the road, then give me un-natural light. I actually felt my '99 RX with headlight and fog light on produce a better, wider, light than the ES330. On a black paved road, with no street lights, the lighting felt more like the DRL were on, than the headlights. Didn't like it at all.

I've always felt the '99 RX light were very good very being 'plain' halogens. Just MHO.

I have my 01 RX with HIDs and a 05 Pontiac Vibe with standard headlights. Both my wife and I prefer the Vibe lighting. When I add to that the current problem with HID thefts, I wish I didn't have them on the RX
