Ipod Hook-up
Sorry in advance for this because I'm sure it has been mentioned before, but again I'm new in here and have not seen anything about it.
I bought the tape adapter for my Ipod and it souds AWFUL! I can't believe they would actualy sell something that works soo bad.
I also have a FM transmiter that I use on my other car. It sounds almost as bad.
Does anyone have a suggestion on what might work well? I saw one of those FM transmiters that actualy connect to the antenna input in the rear of the head unit. I think that might be a possibility though I am a bit antimidated by the dash display/head unit and would only take it apart if I really knew where to go with things.
Has anyone tried this? I have a 2001 RX300 and would love to hear what others have done in this delima.

From what I found there is nothing you can do with my system to integrate the Ipod in. According to what I read, only RX's with the navigation system are able to sycronize with a auxilury input.
There has to be someway of doing it in my RX300. If anyone else knows of a more specific thread or source of some kind please let me know.
Thanks

If you are looking for buy and splice in there is nothing that I know [other than cassete/FM].
On the other hand if you are willing to dive in and have the understanding of electronics you have a few options. Lexus base systems are the same [L+/- and R+/-] ... sophisticated, yes!
Not to mention the serial control protocol .... hard to add devices that talk to each other and display required information.

This is just to let the world know that I'm waiting for somebody to come up with a connector-plug-in product that does this. There should be an adequate market out there with the number of RXs out there and the number of Ipod/XM/Sirius units.
I have the technical knowledge to do it, but not the inclination and patience to to build one from scratch.

try these guys:
mp3mycar.com
I meet them at MacWorld-SF in January and spend a lot of time discussing the RX300 integration with them. They seemed to have the best set-up, but it's a bit pricey; that's why I haven't done it yet. Basically you "replace" your CD changer for a direct connection to your iPod. That makes sense since you won't need the CD player anymore.

I looked at their web site and it sppears their products only work with RX300's with the navigation system option. I think another company (I can't remember the name) offered this a year or so ago too. My RX doesn't have the navigation option.

Fortunately, I do have factory nav so it would work great. I seem to remember that it would still work w/o nav but no song/control display, etc. I'd give them a call to discuss if you wanted to pursue it. They were very knowledgeable and really wanted to work out a solution.
