Default VIN number diff. - JTJ vs. JT6

Some RX300's VINs start with "JTJ" and others "JT6".
Both indicate Japan manufacturing.
What's the difference?

The first 3 digits of a Toyota VIN are Country of Manufacture, Company, and Vehicle Type.

For JTJ: Japan, Toyota, Multi-Purpose Passenger Vehicle
For 2T2: Canada, Toyota, Multi-Purpose Passenger Vehicle

I imagine 6 is also "Multi-Purpose Passenger Vehicle". The 6 might have distinguished Lexus from Toyota, but "J" and "2" are also Toyota Multi-Purpose Passenger Vehicles.

I believe they switched from "JT6" to "JTJ" in 2001.
