Reapair and maintainance cost are based on.

parts
labor charge ($/hr)
Time ... calculated in half-hour increments .. 35 min => 1hr (rounded up)

Time for each service/repair item for each vehicle is listed in book (some where).

As an example, if you bring your own oil, you can save on a high markup item at a dealerhsip.

Time for a service at Toyota and Lexus will be the same.

If you go to Toyota instead to Lexus you may shave $10/hr (guess .. you can call and ask . This is not a trade secret ... your bill lists this as line item) on labor.

This may be the case for some stuff but an oil change at a Toyota Dealer is maybe $26 and at the Washington DC-area Lexus dealers I think it's around $75 these days. True, you get a car wash, a choice of several plasma TVs to watch in a palacial setting, and maybe a loaner car.

I am in need for my 90K service. At 75K I had the belt replaced, so for my 90k service what should I tell them to do. I have been running mobile 1 oil and have done all the big services. the 60k one was sure costly.

if you guys are looking to save money, go to a Toyota dealership. Same services for a fraction of the price. (It's the same engine in both cars =]) You just won't get the phenomenal Lexus service...
