Default 30,000 60,000 90,000 Scheduled Maintenance

I have an '01 RX300 with about 73,000 miles on it. I have never gotten the scheduled maintenance because I can't stand paying them $500+ for a job that costs $80-$100 in parts/fluids. Can anyone tell me what is done at the 60,000 mile checkup? Will Toyota and/or local mechanics do the same thing, or is this a Lexus-only situation? As you can see, I am illiterate when it comes to car maintenance.

Thx for your help....

i have had my 60k mile sevice done recently, all they did was regular oil change, tire rotation along with
drive belts replacement(parts $40,labor$88), altogether i paid around $180 that day. I guess they will change the timing belt at 90k. hope this helps.

Thx....did you go to Lexus for this? I need to have my drive belts replaced and they quoted me 180 just for that so I was wondering if I should just get the 60k inspection or go to Toyota and have the belts done for 130.

Recommend you have all your fluids drained and replaced.
Have your A/C freon checked.
Both the engine and cabin ACC filter checked and replaced if required.
Exchange the wiper inserts.

Along with the two accessory belts.

Default 60,000 mile service

When I took my wife's 2000 RX300 in for the LAST oil/filter change under the Certified Warranty that the Lexus dealer will perform, I asked the service rep. what the cost of the 60,000 mile service is and what was to be done. She could not tell me. She didn't know. She did say it was about $500.00 and that I should check the owners' manual to determine what services would be performed. Well, I did. It would seem to me that the parts/fluids cost about $70-$80 and it should take no longer than a couple of hours. I know of one RX300 that will probably NEVER see the inside of a Lexus dealer again! If I run across something I can't handle I'll take it to the Toyota dealer.

Default 90k service @ Toyota dealer

My RX 300 will be due for its 90k service soon and the Lexus dealer told me it would cost $1,100, but could not explain what work was going to be involved other than the timing belt replacement. The previous owner just had the transmission serviced and engine flushed before I got a hold of it, so I asked my Toyota dealer what he would charge for just the timing belt - $300. He also offered to do the 90k service for ~$350 and credit me for the transmission service already done. Sound reasonable?

It does not matter who does the scheduled maintainence, DIY, trusted mechanic, Toyota dealership, but do get it done. No machine is bullet proof, and costly repairs can be averted.

If you guys think regular maintainance is expensive at Lexus dealership, wait till you see a repair bill.

If you take your RX to Toyota dealership, promise to tell every one that you drive a Toyota

Most people already know it! They just can't justify spending $10,000-$20,000 more for the Lexus emblem and the perceived " snoot appeal " that accompanies it. Most Lexus vehicles aren't even owned, they are leased [ rented ] for 3-4 years. It figures!

According to my Lexus salesperson, 60% of the Lexus are leased, 30% financed, 10% of buyers paid cash. So Bowtie3 has a good point there.

I did my 60K at Lexus for $599. Yes, I agree it's pricey. Basically they changed all fluids and filters. Inspected this and that. I did comparison shop at the nearby Toyota. They'd do it for $499, but no free Lexus loaner. (They could arrange an SUV from Enterprise for $44.) So I figured what the heck, so I had the 60K done at Lexus.

I do the routine oil change at Toyota. Tire rotation is done at CostCo for free. The 90K will involve changing the timing belt, so it could be close to a grand all together.

last time i took my car for refrigerant check up, they filled it for free .....Hope they don't wait and charge the next time i go for oil change (due soon)

Default 90,000 mile service cost

I'm getting a 90,000 mile service done along with a host of other things done including:

chage spark plugs
flush transmission (at my request)
change timing belt
change water pump
change accessory belts and hoses
change rear differential fluid
change transfer case fluid
replace right brake light bulb
replace front brake pads and resurface rotors

for a grand total of $1,652 at an independent shop using OEM parts and fluids. Sound reasonable??? (This is in Manhattan Beach, CA)

That sounds about right Mellon.

My independant shop told me to expect about $1,000 for the 90,000 service + water pump & timing belt replacement. I also just had the breaks done (pad replacement and rotors machined) for $300.

I was also told that the water pump replacement may or may not be required, but that if you want it to run forever, that it was a good idea to get it done.

My dealer just quoted me $610 to change all fluids except coolant. Seems high, yes?

Which fluids are "all" fluids? I'm assuming engine oil, brake fluid, coolant, rear differential (if any), and transmission fluid. I'm not including power steering fluid or windshield washer fluid.

If you're in the Washington DC area, dealer prices here are high. I sometimes think about taking a trip to have my service done in a lower cost area. It might even pay to drive up to Ontario
