RX300 Navigation computer location?
Could someone post a picture of where the navigation computer is located on a RX300, I am doing an OEM install and would like to put it in the correct location. I know it goes near the jack, but a picture would certainly help.

Any one have nav installed in their RX300????? The harness is all set up and I will finish the install this weekend. I would like to know where Lexus mounts the computer......

No need for the sarcasm... I don't think anybody knows where all the parts go. I've got diagrams for the 330, but not the 300. A search on the subject would tell you that the general consensus here is that a retrofit of an OEM nav system into a non-Nav 300 is darn near impossible and not worth the effort. So kudos for attempting it, but you're blazing new ground.
The picture sure doesn't look like any nav part I've seen. From another angle, does the DVD go in there somewhere, or is that unit in the picture a separate ECU? I think the DVD drive is the only thing that's accessible without some major disassembly of the trunk area, so that might prevent someone from running out and taking a quick pic for you.
Edit: Another idea would be to visit the Toyota/Lexus Techinfo Web site, http://techinfo.lexus.com. For $10 you can access it for 24 hours and read as much of the service manual as you want. The pieces are all PDF's, so you can save the parts you care about. That's where I got the 330 diagrams.

I was a little frustrated.....Sorry!!!!! It is an OEM install, with the use of most of the original harness, it is actually a kit from "lexusaudio". It has all the connectors and only 4 wire splices. It is pretty sweet........ I was not sure where to mount the ECU because of the molded plastic pieces around the spare tire. It actually goes on the RH side of the jack, nearly underneath the FM antenna. I am waiting on 1 more cannon plug and then I can install it in the vehicle. I hope to install a back-up camera into the 2006 computer.

What year is this navigation unit from? The icons on the bottom of the screen are completely
different than the ones on my '01 RX300's nav system.... (the zoom in, off, map view, zoom
out icons, for example)
Thanks!

The Vehicle is 2001, the nav headunit is from a 2003, the computer is a 2006 (Generation 5) with the latest DVD. 5.1 Have you installed the latest update with your generation system? Now to find a place and mount the computer, secure the harness and reinstall the interior.

flash14, that's awesome!
Where did you get the parts?
Unfortunately, you can't upgrade a generation through software alone. You would have to change the computer hardware. Without changing the computer, you're stuck with whatever generation the vehicle came with. Although they make slight tweaks, maybe like bug fixes, you can't add new functionality. Update discs mainly just change the map and POI databases, and you must make sure that the disc is compatible with your generation.

I purchased the "kit" from member "lexusaudio" It is a comnplete kit, with all the cannon plugs, and only needs a couple of wires to be "tapped" into, one for speed, diagnostic, reverse (optional) and the power antenna. I am totally new to this and as far as the DVD updates, on my home stereo, Bose, they sent me an update disk and now it will play VCD's, which it would never do before, not sure what the Lexus ECU update would include, if anything besides the updated map. Back to the rear seat reinstall.....

I checked the color bar using the diagnostic procedure, all the colors are fine, but the water sure does look purple....... maybe I will drive over to the beach to see if it is really purple now..... Turns out it was a contrast deal, not a problem....

Back to my original problem, all the spare tire area plastic takes up all the available space, I cannot seem to figure out how Lexus put the computer, especially with the jack in place. I thought about relocating it...... just not sure. Any input is greatly appreciated...... Probably the worst part of the whole install was mounting the antenna on its mounting bracket, the screws are supposed to go towards the back of the vehicle, but with the AC ductwork all in place, it is nearly impossible to even get the antenna on the studs. I ended up using velcro.... If I was going to do it again, I would either mount the antenna on the dash next to a tweater or just velcro it on top of the defroster ducting, under the dash.
