hey all,
i am trying to get HID kit installed soon i.e HID ballast and HID bulbs(12000k- bluish purple, like those on volvo's) i am sure they are bright but not sure how hot they get, i am worried if they will melt my 2000 non HID head lamps...any comments??
saw some good kits on www.GOHID.com and also on ebay

anything higher than 6000k will be significantly dimmer, strain your eyes, and glare to others, especially using a non HID reflector. Putting HIDs in your fogs would be much more effective-better beam pattern.

um most cars that come stock with hids are in the 4500k range not 12000k. the bluish purple that you are seeing is probably coming from the projector on the headlight itself, rather than the actual color of the light thats being emitted

Anything in the 4k -6K would be decent aftermarket HID's to put in the car. The wattage to run HID's is actually lower than the stock halogens. The only exception is during startup when it does require a short surge of energy. You really have little to worry about melting anything.
