New to forum looking for advice
Hi all,
I am brand new to this forum. I recenlty sold my Audi S4 to get a cheaper more reliable Rx300.
I found a black 2002 with 66k very clean for 18k. I think the price is probably pretty average for an RX300 is its condition.
My question is assuming regular maintainace has been kept on the vehichle what problem areas if any should I look for and at what milage should I expect the next major service to be due? What is involved with that service?
I am sorry if my questions are reduntant to the board. I know these are probably very common questions that you all get sick of answering for a noob such a me. I did try using the search tool but either wasnt using it correctly or it just couldnt provide me with answers to my questions.
Any advice is greatly appreciated!

At 66k-mi in roughly 5 years, the car appears to have been averaging about 13,000 mi/year. According to the service manual, there are oil changes about 2-3 times per year minimum. At that rate of driving, there are tire rotations every year and more significant service on the even years, including engine air filter change, brake fluid change, coolant change and (even though it's not in the Lexus recommendations) transmission fluid drain and refill. The air conditioner cabin air filter should be changed every 1-1/2 years, and wiper blade inserts every year or two. That's the stuff that should have been done. On AWD models, I think the rear differential fluid is changed every couple of years as well.
If you don't have records of transmission drain/refills; check the color of the transmission fluid. If it not cherry red, but grey or dark, I'd be very worried.
I have a 2002 RX300, and recently changed the power steering fluid since it was getting a little dark and cloudy. That's also not mentioned by Lexus.
The price sounds very good to me, but you didn't mention the options on the car, and I don't follow prices.

I would suggest, read the owner's manual. If your car did not have one, visit lexus.com and get a complimantary copy after registering.
Next visit your dealer and get a copy of the service history. If services were not done at Lexus, then you either have to realy on previous sellers word or make an assumption and set a plan to bring the service uptodate.
Enjoy your ride, but dont neglect maintainance. Dealer charges for service are relatively higher, but you can do some of the stuff yourself.

Do not worry about redundancy.
It depends on a lot variables, including miles and year, so we are always more than happy to help.
Yes, biggest two things are transmission fluid and oil changes. The service history, assuming it has been serviced at Lexus, will indicate when changes were done.
BTW, I am curious as to what issues you had with the S4?

1) Like they mentioned, I'd be sure to check out the transmission fluid and the previous service done on the transmission. (Was it ever replaced? did they ever conduct any transmission flushes or at least drain/fills)
2) Next major service is 90k.
