Default My new bunghole and resonator

Raining last night so no track. and no testing of last week's mods and that makes Lexmex a little angry

but I did make another trip to Hangar 1, www.hangar1.com.mx, on Saturday morning and we did a few things.

Let's take a look at them one by one.

First, here is the actual OEM piping beween the resonator and the catalytic converter where the O2 sensor lies.

I tried taking this shot many times, this is the clearest I can get (I swear).

My problem with this piece is it is 1.75 inches in diameter.

Never fear, exhaust modifications are here.

So we cut that section of pipe off and proceed to go to work.

And what we are going to do is cut the bung out and strap it on to 2.5 inch piping that will replace the OEM piping between the cat and resonator.

He heated that saw's blade up under a flame.

They weld the new 2.5 inch piping on to the back of the cat and add a new bung hole.

NO CELS with the new bungole.

Now on to...ah yes, that Sankei resonator from an Accord.

I am such a traitor.

Well it is gone.

We had a rattling inside which I mentioned earlier. We took it off and could not get what was inside out.

Moreover, there had been a leak on the piping just in front of it that no doubt affected my torque.

I have a huge hunch that this thing blew open on the night of my 17.931 record back in January as suddenly about 3 or 4 runs afterwards I lost torque and the times went down to 18.6 from like 17.9 - 18.1.

Here is a look down its throat.

But, I still kept it among the four finalists.

From left to right, a glasspack, the Sankei, a Flowmaster and Hangar 1s own custom resonator.

Now, the glasspack I had tried for one night way back in September 2005 and hit a record 18.177 at the time. Next day I junked it...way too loud...set off every car alarm in the city. Next day, I got the Sankei.

Sankei, no, because we could not get the rattling thing out.

Flowmaster, had come off of an Seat Leon Cupra (a very faster turbo car). The previous guy didn't like this. Basically it has some folds inside of it (not direct) and is very, very quiet.

Hangar 1 Resonator, the guy in the Seat got one of these instead.

The weight was a few more pounds with the Hangar 1 than with the Sankei, but I also felt that given the size it should quiet my RX down a bit, so it won out.

A very nice 3 inch opening that easily would fit on the 2.5 inch pipe.

Keep in mind my Mangaflow Highflow cat has a 2.25 inch opening that the 2.5 inch pipe fits over. I may in the future move up to a 2.5 inch or 3 inch cat.
