Default RX 300 Crash!!! Pics Included

An RX 300 slammed into a Ford Expedition early this morning. All of the occupants were able to walk away from this accident. The lady driving the car told me she was reaching down for a camera when she slammed into my neighbors Ford. These type of things you just do not expect on a early Sunday morning. I'm kinda lucky it was not my Lexus RX. So just be care out there guys, things do happen.

I'm lucky it was not my baby.

Sad

But with a different perspective ...

Beautiful ... classic ... as it should have happened. All damage seems to be in-front of the cab.

Crumple zone, point of bend in the hood (notice this is the way to prevent that thing entering the front windshield), how intact the cabin is, air bags going off ...

Ouch, hurts to look. But I mean what do you expect when you're reaching down for a camera and taking your eyes off the road. Always get it when you're stopped or at your destination, drive safely guys.

That kinda looks like ALOT of damage. How fast was she driving on a residential block?

...and if the Ford was parked why was she driving so close to the curb or did she veer off?

How is the front bush guard mounted/installed? I wonder if there is excess damage resulting in that guard.

Other members have warned the bush guard will cause more damage to the car during a crash. Look like we have picture to prove it. There is relatively small damage on the Ford, but the impact force are absorbed by the bush guards, bypassed RX300's front bumper (which is designed to absorbs impacts) and crashed the entire front end of the RX300.

The gaurd just chnages the way the force is ditributed. Note the two places where the veritcal memebers of the gaurd get imbedded in the front bumper. Without the gaurd the bumper would have bore the brontof the impact more evenly.

Crash testing (+ design ) is all done without the gaurd.

In the pictured scenario, with or without the gaurd, the result would have been the same [only difference would have been the imbedded cuts mentioned above]

I used to have a bush guard on my van (mitsubishi) and an inexperienced driver hit my left portion. It twisted with my bumper and hit both headlamps and the windshield too. I swear not to put this bush guard anymore. They make great damage. The accident was only due to some guy trying to park in a mall and it was only a "kiss" from his car. He didnt get any damage. Mine is a flat nose van.

Since the point of impact was on the bumpers, the height of damage reached the windshield since the guard twisted vertically like a see-saw. If I dont have this bush guard, it would have been only a scratch on my left bumper. Therefore, the repair caused $$$.

More so, these bush guards affect the aerodynamic design of vehicles plus added weight. (Wind resistance decreases economy.) I believe they don't protect the passengers, they can even pierce your face or chest if they fly off!!!!

Brush guards are much more common down here and can have poor installation. A few times I have seen accidents, I often see a brush guards off to the side of the accident and just like the incident above, the damage is really bad.
