03' RX300 swap out Halogen to HID...any rewiring?
Looking for someone with experience on taking complete OEM HID (xenon) headlamp units and physically swapping out with the standard headlamp assy with Halogen as it came from the factory. I am trying to understand if it is a simple swap out on my 2003 RX300 to upgrade fron the Halogen to the HID (xenon).
Looking through the owners manual it looks as though there is even an indicator lamp that's part of the intrument cluster somehow tied to the HID assemblies to indicate if there is trouble with the "auto leveling" feature (auto-leveling is part of the OEM HID headlamp assemblies) to alert you of malfunction so that you don't blind other drivers. In an older thread/forum exchanges on this subject someone mentioned something about computer & rewiring harness? Can you shed any light (pun-intended) on what is involved? Thanks in advance !!!

One of the problems with retro fit is the lack of 'auto level'.
Auto level mechanism consists of sensors (roughly near the front and rear axle or psudo axle). On an incline these sensors send a signal to the levelling motors (inside the HID head lamp assembly). Smarts (ecu i presume) monitors the motion of the levelling motor and signal from the sensor to confirm the system is working and in case of a failure, turn on the warning lamp in the dash.
So other than the lamp assembly being different (includes levelling motors, bulb, shape of reflector), ballasts, wiring to the lamps, you have levelling sensors, harness (wires from the sensors), ecu programming (my guess), warning lamp completes the list.
I think you may have to punt on autolevelling stuff.
