for a performance chip you usually have to send in your ecu and it takes atleast 4 days until you can get it back. if your talking about the "performance chips" they sell on ebay then those are crap. all it does is trick your maf sensor into thinking its getting cold air and making your engine eat up more fuel. you might as well mod your intake.

I plan to this modification in the future, but would want to wait until I get a turbo upgrade to get this properly mapped. Have had friends who installed chips, go turbo and forget to remap and it causes problems.
However, if you plan to do non-turbo, non-supercharged upgrades, what Jet could do for you right now would help.

There are alternative vehicles which can acellarate quicker and go fast and are stock/modified_easy.
So what is the fascination of making the RX faster? .. exception is Lexmex who races RX on trac.

Salim's right, there are alternate vehicles and much easier to modify.
It is a sad thing there is not a huge aftermarket performance parts market for our vehicles. That also goes for our engine group, though some get the TRD Supercharger (which I also don't like along with the TTE Compressor).
My original motivation was the high altitude of Mexico City, 7,000 to 8,000 feet range. And that will just sap power and making going up hills difficult not to mention MPG.
Well with the chip, you have a remapping issue as I mentioned earlier if you start modifying extensively. Yes, MPG can be affected, but it will still depend much on how much you push on the accelerator. When you would do WOT, obviously with a chip and more acceleration, more gas than a stock chip system.

As far my info goes, the best way to "chip-tune" a car, is to be in the car, and logging the ECU while its driving. Then they get all of the readings concerning YOUR engine, and not a general tuning.
One of the problems with professional chip tuning, is that you have to/should drive on higher octan, since the "Tuners" take out the difference between a car, made for all-over-the-world set-up condition, and the best condition without "bad engine things" like low octane, sand, warm, cold, thin air, and so on.
The professional claims they get the car down app. 10-20% in fuel consume, and 7-15% up in HP. But also the car then prefer 98 octan.... ;o)
If it's too good to be truth, it usual is.... ;o)
But I would like to see their faces, too! In my rear mirror... ;o)
