Burning engine oil! How much is normal?
#31
Just recalled that on a couple DIY changes I am pretty sure I added the 5 gts. then had to top off with about a half quart more to get to the top fill mark. I usually am in no hurry and I let it really drain before plug/fill.

I just did my 3rd oil change. After reading this, I realized I might have made a mistake.
What does dry fill mean?
I always assume I need 4.7L of oil or 5 qt. I've been running like that for the past 16k...usually after the oil change, it's up to the mid point on the dipstick.

I will tell you that it's not the first time I have heard of somebody telling me (I heard this in PM a few times) of Lexus dealers saying to bring 5.5. Unless they do something where they suck every last drop out (a.k.a. flush), I have only seen them drain and fill. The dealer I used up in San Antonio a few years ago (though I didn't need it since I do my own) did not tell me this.
