Default 2000 RX 300 stalls after start

I just picked this truck up for my daughter (first car). Had it 10 days when suddenly it stalls when I try to start it up cold. The engine turns over and will run as long as my foot is on the gas but when I take it off the car dies. No warning lights are on... what's up?

Try getting a code dump through OBDII port (Auto zone) and post here. There are too many possible reasons.

As a band-aid try A/C on (which boosts idle speed a tad).

I had the same problem with my '99 RX300, and after searching on this forum I found a thread on how to clean the throttle body/MAF, it has been fine since.
I couldn't find that thread on here anymore, hopefully, someone else can point you to it.

sounds like a air / fuel metering issue. Got a check engine light?

Could be a million things, but the cars are very reliable so its very strange.

Thanks all. It's sitting at the Lexus dealership right now. I told them about the IACV post. I guess they're having trouble figuring it out too since I never heard from them today. I'll let you know what they tell me.

I think its called the Idle Control Valve.

My moms highlander has the same issue. Now recently the check engine light is on. Called the Toyota dealer and they want $320 for that censor!

Seems like my mom is gonna be driving around with her check engine light on for a month or two.

Think all Toyotas have this problem. Our 1995 Camry 4cy had the same issue.

I have a 2007 IS right now, who knows if this problem will occur with the new generation engines later down the road??

Be prepared for Lexus to tell you IACV is not cleanable and must be replaced because "it will get dirty again if cleaned".
Let us know what dealer quote you...

Default Yes, IACV

That happened to our 2001. From what I searched out, I believe it happens
with regularity at just over 60K miles. Reading the instructions on the web,
it took probably 20minutes to fix it, zero dollars.
At least in my case, it just took a squirt of WD-40 and a little hand wiggling to
free it up once you get the tough to remove screws out and the actuator off.

Gary, Thanks for posting your experience.
KBenztx, didn't you promised to post back what dealer told you? What happened?
