Interior Air filter?
#2
Hey bro your friend was correct and I just replaced mine. If you open the glove box there is a little trap door at the back, put your hand on the top and pull forward and it should come done. Behind that is another door. Pull that one straight out towards you. AFter that the air filter will just pull out on a tray. New filter cost me 12.99 at autozone.

The recommended change interval is 18 months, and mine really needs it at that point. You can also get one at Lexus dealers. There have been threads here in the past about the equivalent Toyota part number and making your own from a home A/C filter. I've always used a Lexus/Toyota filter, purchased from one of the discount mail-order Lexus parts dealers.

Another option that's popular is the Blitz Hybrid A/C filter, http://l-tunedparts.com/product/?id=1892

I just changed the one in mine with a Purolator C38222 from a local AdvancedAutoParts store, at $15.88. I also went to the local AutoZone store and they sold me a Bosch P3755 at $14.99. The Bosch P3755 cabine air filter would work but doesn't fit my 2000 RX300 well, as it doesn't have the flat edges to tightly sit on the plastic casing. The Purolator C38222 fits exactly, with its flat edges fit into the 4 small notches on the plastic casing.

Here is a general location when I was taking apart the glove box to show the ECM (which is vertical piece outlined in yellow).

I took mine out today, had never changed or cleaned it before.
1. Removed big debris by using a small plastic strip (a tie)
2. Washed it in my sink with dishwashing liquid and hot water, got all the dirt out.
3. Dried it using hair dryer.
4. Vacuumed rest of the crap still stuck on it using home vacuum hose.
Came our real clean, and installed it back
Amount saved $15.00 ( Bosh brand price in AutoZone)
Time spent: 15 Mts.
