Thank you very much for the explanation, suggestions, and supplemental reading Tuned...I will try to get ahold of some GC 0W-30 this weekend...but that Costco deal for Mobil1 5W-30 seems tempting...but I think my "baby" deserves the best...since I know what's real and best for it now when it comes to oil haha...thanks again Tuned and everyone else for the info!

and I will go out for that Autozone sale...but seeing that the nearest Autozone is in the next town 15 minutes away...and is probably the only Autozone for a 25mile or 50 mile radius...I think they will be out seeing how some people have already reported seeing empty shelves for these!!

Just call ahead so you won't waste your time and gas.
Correct me if I am wrong, with current AZ sale, cost per quart is the same as the 6 pack M1 at Costco. Also if you can find the older SL rated Mobil 1 (one with rectangular instead of the ribbed bottle) from Napa Auto Parts , grab those since they are mainly PAO based. SL rated M1 is the only one I will ever buy from Mobil, if I want to buy a Group III oil, I will buy the cheaper Pennzoil Platinum.

FYI, official Japan Mobil web stated "PAO+ Hydroprocessed" for 5w-30 and 10w-30 weights. Hydroprocessed means highly re-refined oil from petroleum crude.

I just finished an oil change and put in the GC. I like it. Runs very smooth and silky. I'm a believer in GC. We'll see how holds up after a few 1000 miles.

Lexmex also reported silky smooth feel after he switched to GC. Fresh oil and PAO's better viscosity before engine reaches operating temperature may contribute to the smoothness.
I think Lexmex is the first to try GC on this forum, he should have the most miles on oil.
My RX has 800 miles since I changed to GC, my car feels similiar to when I used the old Mobil 1 SL rated 5w-20 and 0w-20 oil: better power and less drag due to GC's lower temperature viscosity compared to other 30 weight oil.

FYI, someone just posted a GC Virgin Oil Analysis, manufactured on 3/23/07. Looks solid, I like the high TBN and flash point for additional high temperature protection for 1mz-fe.

Stilll, very silky smooth. My RX has been sitting for a week (and no track tonight as I just got back). I have about 2,000 miles or so on it now and still no problems to report and no consumption issues. Runs like a champ.

I just picked up 7 quarts of GC when I visited my parent since I cleaned up inventory of my local Autozone. I have a little stash for 6 oil changes or three summers, now if you think I am crazy over a good oil, take a look at what this guy did.

At least BMW has it here in quantity, but extremely expensive at roughly $30 USD/liter. I told my father to hoard when he finds it.

Welcome to the GC/RX300 club, IMHO, hot Sacramento summer + 1mzfe engine makes GC almost a given for RX. If ever give it a try, let us know your experience.

TunedRX300:
Do you know what have the UOAs on 1mz-fe engines been showing for GC? How many miles should we be expecting before oil change?

dfish,
Three UOAs for us to reference, which suggest GC oil change interval range is 6-8K miles. Take these data w/ a grain of salt since 1) they are data from other people 2) none for RX300 3)you may have different environment and usage.
UOA for a 3mz-fe (1mz-fe's cousin) Sienna for 7.8K, GC gold. I think this UOA may be optimistic http://theoildrop.server101.com/foru...&Number=246706
UOA for 1mz-fe Sienna for 4.6K, GC gold
http://theoildrop.server101.com/foru...&Number=221788
UOA for 1mz-fe for 5.3K w/ fuel additives, GC green
http://theoildrop.server101.com/foru...&Number=232893

My current fill is GC gold + 2 oz of Auto-RX. As you can see, UOA from your own car is needed since each of us has slightly different setup and usage.

Tom,
I use a group III oil for my other car, I had a stash of Pennzoil Platinum, bought @$0.99 per quart from Kragens when they had the rebate deal. Your Ford truck may not need GC, a cheaper Group III oil may do fine.

Yea, Ford recommends a 5-20 weight, I have been using Mobil 1, and the ford filter. My lexus was on synthetic blend since its first oil change, and then I switch to full synthetic at around 100k miles.

Autozone recently has sold out German Castrol and some assumed the product is discontinued by Castrol. However, yesterday I was able to pick up 10 quart @ $4.49 per. They have M07 code, which indicates they are made in 2007. GC is alive and well and I will do an UOA in one month

I put it in and recorded the highest fuel economy that my nine year old RX has ever consummed. 22.5 miles per gallon on a 1700 mile trip at 75 and above speed. Nice oil....
