squeeking under hood
Why, when I first start my 01 RX, is there a rhythmic squeeking sound coming from the engine compartment? It sounds like it quits after everything has warmed up...maybe it sounds louder when AC kicks on, I haven't decided yet...

One of the common reported item is the squeeling belt. It is more pronounced in wintre time (dry air). Try using a spray bottle to mist the belt and see if the noise goes away.
If it is the belt you can try belt dressing (temp. solution) or replace the belt. Check when the belt is due for replacement.

I'll check those..thanks..it's only got 35000 miles, but it may be an age thing, as most 01s would probably be in the 70k realm....
How much typically to have the belts replaced? I know on my mazda, it wasn't expensive, but this guy...??

Well, there is the parts cost and then labor.
Unfortunatley, RX has two belts and not the serpentine belt. Both these belts need tension adjustment and that drives up the labor cost. If the shop knows what tension to keep then you need not go to the dealer. A trained mechanic knows how much flex to keep.
I have been looking for the instrument to measure tension in the belt. If any reader knows about it, please post.

During my 90K service, I had both belts replaced for $47. The Lexus dealer didn't charge me labor because they had to remove the two belts to get to the timing belt anyway.

If you can turn the belt 90 degrees the tension is ok. Any more than that and it's too loose. By "turn" I mean twisting belt perpendicular to its path. The test should be done in middle of longest belt segment between any two pulleys.
Not very scientific but I just went out and twisted both my belts and they each only turned 90 degrees.
